In line with the data from CNN; the Permanent Representatives of the European Union (EU) member states failed to reach an agreement on the 11th package of sanctions against Russia during a meeting held on Friday.
The representatives have scheduled another meeting for next week in an effort to come to a consensus.
Polish Ambassador to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś, stated that many technical and complex issues are associated with sanctions against Russia, and thus require careful expert analysis. Nonetheless, Sadoś expressed hope that the sanctions package could be agreed upon in the upcoming meeting.
Sadoś noted that the new package considers Poland's suggestion to extend sanctions to propagandists and judges who pass sentences in political trials, as well as to impose restrictions on Russian transport companies.
He reiterated Poland's call for a ban on imports of agri-food products from Russia to the EU, stating that "In the current situation, we see no justification for extending the authorization to import Russian agri-food products."
In the background, on Tuesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen indicated during a visit to Kyiv that the new sanctions package is aimed at countering the circumvention of trade restrictions already in place and was developed "in very close coordination" with the G7 countries.
In addition to the aforementioned measures, the EU is reportedly proposing to officially cut off Russian oil supplies to Germany and Poland.
