Reports from several sources indicate that unidentified individuals in Russia's Bryansk Oblast have caused significant damage by rigging a railway track with explosives, leading to the derailment of a locomotive and several freight cars.
According to a report from RBC, a prominent Russian media outlet that cited sources from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the incident occurred when the individuals in question detonated an explosive device near the Snezhet rail station.
The explosion caused the locomotive and several freight train cars to derail and capsize, with the incident resulting in significant damage and disruption to railway transport in the area.
Russian Railways, the country's state-owned rail company, released a statement indicating that the derailment was a result of "unauthorized persons interfering with the operation of railway transport."
The company later confirmed that the incident was the result of "unlawful interference with the operation of railway transport" between the Snezhet and Belye Berega stations, with around 20 freight train cars being affected by the derailment.
In addition, Bryansk Oblast Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz confirmed the explosion occurred, stating that "an unidentified explosive device detonated near the Snezhet rail station. There are no casualties.
Finally, The incident has caused significant disruption to rail traffic in the area, with several reports indicating that diesel fuel and other materials have been lost as a result of the derailment.
In particular, Russia lost a diesel locomotive, four wagons, and 12 tonnes of diesel fuel in the explosion that occurred on May 1.
