Breakthrough: Troops Nab Second Suspect in Kaduna Murder Case - Victim Fought Back Against Assault

Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) has apprehended yet another murder suspect linked to the tragic killing of Mrs. Dorathy Irimiya Jonathan in Southern Kaduna.

Previously, OPSH reported the arrest of Lot Dauda, who admitted to his involvement in the crime, along with an accomplice.

Mrs. Jonathan, a resident of Southern Kaduna in Kaduna State, fell victim to a brutal murder on Friday, September 1, 2023, while gathering firewood at Afana village in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of the State. The suspects allegedly carried out this heinous act as she resisted their attempt to assault her.

According to Captain Oya James, the OPSH Media Information Officer, the second murder suspect, Abubakar Mato, was captured as a result of an intensive manhunt by the troops.

In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, September 14, Captain Oya James stated, "Following the arrest of Lot Dauda, who confessed to having murdered Mrs. Dorathy Jonathan at Afana village in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested the second murder suspect, Abubakar Mato, mentioned in the confessional statement obtained from Lot Dauda earlier captured by troops."

Meanwhile, Mrs. Jonathan has been laid to rest.
