SP Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesperson of the command, revealed this development on Thursday, September 15, 2023, and announced the apprehension of four suspects linked to this substantial seizure.
The suspects were presented to the public at the Command's Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi. SP Nafiu Abubakar explained that officers from the Border Drill unit, while conducting a routine patrol, intercepted two trucks laden with 4,927 and 4,906 consignments of Cannabis Sativa, along with 7,500 live cartridges.
The arrested individuals are identified as Shola Adeyemi from Akure, Ondo state; Rasak Agbola from Oyo state; Emmanuel Chukuma from Abia state; and Kanta Bisa from Ghana.
During interviews with Radio Nigeria, Kanta Bisa and Shola Adeyemi, the suspects disclosed that they had loaded the consignments in Ghana and Benin Republic, intending to transport them to Lagos, Nigeria. Astonishingly, they claimed to have successfully passed through eight security checkpoints along the Nigerian border before being apprehended at Tsamiya Maje in Bagudo local government area of Kebbi state.
The police spokesperson emphasized that the investigation was ongoing, as some suspects associated with this incident were still at large.
