The Command's spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, conveyed this development in a statement released in Akure on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the suspect deceitfully portrayed himself as a Good Samaritan, offering assistance to a stranded woman. Shockingly, he then sexually assaulted her at gunpoint in an isolated location. Additionally, he robbed the victim of the sum of N102,000 and her mobile phone.
The arrest transpired following a formal complaint of rape and armed robbery filed at the police station by one of the victims targeted by the suspect.
Subsequently, police operatives conducting routine patrols took the suspect into custody. During questioning, he admitted to perpetrating similar acts of robbery against numerous individuals, robbing them of their possessions and valuables.
Odunlami-Omisanya stated, "Four of his victims were contacted through their recovered phones from the suspect, and they all identified him to have attacked and robbed them of their belongings."
The suspect is set to face legal charges once the investigative process is completed.
Recovered evidence from the suspect's possession includes an unregistered black TVS ladies' motorcycle, a sawn-off shotgun with ammunition, six mobile phones, and a Point of Sale (POS) machine.
