Spanish football has been embroiled in a kissing scandal involving former RFEF president Luis Rubiales and midfielder Jenni Hermoso, which has led to 39 Women's World Cup-winning players refusing to return to the squad until changes are made.Â
The players signed a statement expressing their concerns about safety and respect within the team, despite Rubiales announcing his resignation amid charges of sexual assault and coercion.Â
Now, RFEF executives are preparing to file a complaint against the players for defamation and coercion, arguing that the alleged crimes never occurred and that the players are pressuring the RFEF to remove certain staff members.Â
The situation has led to the postponement of the squad announcement for the Women's UEFA Nations League by the new manager, Montse Tome.
