His mother, Elana Kaminka, shared, "He saw himself as the person who needs to protect other people and who takes responsibility for other people, and that was a line that went through him throughout his life."

Reflecting on Yannai's legacy of altruism, his mother shared that he had been an Israeli Scouts counselor, dedicated his time to mentoring at-risk youth, and later served as a stalwart soldier in the Israel Defense Forces. Yannai, who was poised to celebrate his 21st birthday on October 30, had spoken with his family the day before the tragic events unfolded. They had planned to visit him on the day of the attacks.
