According to the report from CNN, in a significant development, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah revealed on Friday that the group's ongoing attacks on Israel are intended to exert pressure on the Israeli government and put an end to the assault on Gaza.
Since Hamas' attack on October 7, 2023, tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have escalated, marked by over 670 attacks on Israeli positions targeting 48 locations and 17 settlements, as disclosed by Nasrallah in a video speech.
Nasrallah claimed these operations have resulted in a substantial number of Israeli military casualties, a claim countered by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which reported nine fatalities along the northern border since October 7.
According to Nasrallah, Hezbollah has successfully destroyed numerous Israeli vehicles and tanks during the ongoing confrontations.
Issuing a warning, Nasrallah emphasized that in the event of a broader conflict, people in northern Israel would be the first to suffer consequences, cautioning that if Israel succeeds in Gaza, "south Lebanon will be next."
The Hezbollah chief also addressed the recent death of Saleh Al-Arouri, a senior figure in Hamas, in Beirut, stating that it "will not go unpunished." Nasrallah's statement adds a layer of complexity to the already intricate dynamics of the ongoing conflict.
Hezbollah, backed by Iran, is a formidable Islamist movement with a potent paramilitary force on the Israel-Lebanon border. Nasrallah's speeches this week mark a significant departure, as he had not spoken publicly since 2006.
