According to the report from People's Gazette on the popular microblogging platform, X; Telecom operators across Nigeria have informed Peoples Gazette journalists (and the Nigerian citizens) that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Security Adviser (NSA) are intentionally slowing internet speeds across the country.
This action aims to suppress the flow of information from protesters to other Nigerians and the international community.
An administration official, who confirmed the interference, stated that isolating the protesters would deny them crucial global support, making it easier for the government to manage the crisis.
Rights activist Emeka Mbah has called on President Bola Tinubu to allow Nigerians to express their frustrations regarding the severe hunger and corruption affecting the nation.
"The government can't take people's livelihood and still take their voice alongside," Mbah said. "That is an overreach."
Furthermore,it is important to note that the protests which started from yesterday being the 1st of August, 2024 is yet to receive an official statement from the president.
